Always Up!

Always Up! is a great game where players would need to control a cute black character up of the screen. Using the accelerometer, tilt the device left and right so that the character will land on a platform. There are a lot of different platforms, some vanishes after being stepped on it once, some jolt the character several screen up, and some stays there as long as you are on the same screen with it. There are some fans that will help boost the jumping distance, and there are also blade fans that you need to avoid. There are also stars in each stage for players to collect and have a perfect score of each level. Always Up is an free, easy, one-handed iOS game that any iOS players shouldn't miss.

Imaginary Range

Imaginary Range is a little bit different type of game. It is a mashup of comic and puzzle games. The creator (Square Enix) has made a great effort in developing this game by putting in a lot of beautiful graphics comic and loads of fun and challenging puzzle. There are also challenges where players need to find certain things in the comic strips to be used to continue onwards in the game. The game is well polished game, as expected from the makers of Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts franchise. It is very well recommended to any iOS device users. Some delays during the loading time, but all in all, this game is recommended for those who has a long afternoon to waste.

GT Racing Motor Academy Free+

GT Racing Motor Academy is a driving simulation from Gameloft, the developer that brings you the Asphalt series. This game can be considered as a Gran Turismo on iOS devices. Players can jump into a car, and start to race all around the track. You can control the steering of the car using the accelerometer, while the acceleration and brakes can be controlled using a virtual button on the screen. Try to get all the license to race first and then race the car. There are a lot of licensed car in the game (e.g. Mazda Roadster as shown above), and just like Gran Turismo, players can view the video replay after each race or license attempt. GT Racing Motor Academy is a very good race simulation with great graphics. You should give it a try.

Let's Golf 3

Let's Golf 3 (Japanese: みんなのゴルフ3) is a golf simulation game published by Gameloft. Firstly, players will have to create his/her own avatar with the limited choices of clothing/gear. There is a lot of gears that can be unlocked due time.   Like any other non-motion control golf games, Let's Golf 3 will determine your swings just by the timing of your (virtual) button push. The first push is for the strength of the swing, and the second is the accuracy of the hit. The winds and surface inclination do take effect on this game, and the feeling of scoring a birdie or an eagle is very satisfying. Let's Golf 3 It is available for both iOS and Android devices.

Blood & Glory

Blood & Glory is an great game with amazing graphics. Just look at the picture above, it speaks for itself. This game looks like Infinity Blade II, the game that developed with iOS and retina display in mind. In Blood & Glory, you take control of an arena gladiator-like fighter and fight with bigger and stronger opponent. There are some shield, helm, sword, armour, etc. to be bought to make your character lasts longer. At the end of the day, the skills of swiping the screen for combos and estimating opponents move are the things that keep your character alive. There are also some special attacks to cast most damage to the opponent and winning as early as you could. Blood & Glory is a stunning game, and it is almost unthinkable that this game is actually free on iOS App Store.

Angry Birds: Rio

Angry Birds Rio is another bird launching puzzle game from the Angry Birds franchise. This game was launched to celebrate the launch of a DreamWorks movie called Rio. Like any other Angry Birds game, players will need to launch their feisty birds towards the enemy structure and hit every enemy available in the stage. Unlike any other Angry Birds game, instead of pigs as enemies, players are now against hoard of monkeys. The type of birds available as your perusal is almost the same as the other two games earlier, with an addition of the star of the movie Rio, Blu and Jewel. (spoiler alert?) Blu which couldn't fly will jump and moves uncontrollably that might sometimes act to your advantages. There is also a combination of Blu and Jewel where they can fly straight without having the effect of gravity like any other wing-less Angry Birds. Angry Birds: Rio is free on Google Play, but you have to pay for the same version on iOS counterparts. This game IMO is the better game than it's two predecessors.

Ghost Chicken

Ghost Chicken is an easy and quite addictive iOS game. The controls are as simple as it can be. Players will control the head of the ghost chicken to eat all of the seeds lying inside the hole in the ground. Because the chicken is a ghost, it has a special ability of elongated neck that enables it to dive through the holes to eat, instead of just pecking on the top of the soil. The objective is to eat all the seeds and avoid the other living creature to bite the chicken's neck. It can also eat the ants, and spiders to protect itself from being bitten. Ghost Chicken awards the player that could clear the stage earliest. Get it for free.

Draw Something

Draw Something is seriously an addictive game! It's like the game of pictionary, but instead of having to be in the same room to play it, you only need to use the mobile device and play it everywhere in the world. This game is about one player draw something and the person at the other end would need to guess what it is. Players who are drawing can choose one out of three difficulty pictures to draw. After finish guessing the picture, the roles are switched, the drawer became guesser and vice versa. The game will keep track on how long the time needed for one to guess pictures, but the main achievements is to have streaks of correct answer. Collect as many coins and buy new colours and some perks. Running Fred

Running Fred is a running game from the same company that brought us Falling Fred. This game has a less horrific theme compared to Falling Fred, because instead of falling, now Fred is running. Players will control Fred with the accelerometer and move the character away from harmful things that might cause him to stumble and finally get caught with the camera. This game has a nice graphics and very well made. Players will have special skills and perks added to Fred in order to let him run further in the game. There are three game modes: Adventure, Challenge and Endless Survival that will keep you on the screen. Running Fred is a great game to play and now you can finally introduce Fred to a younger audience.

Ninjump

Ninjump is a ninja-themed running game. In Ninjump, you only need a finger to control the ninja character. The challenge is to go as high as you can by running using either on the left or the right wall. You can jump between walls by just touching anywhere on the screen. Try to avoid hitting any verandahs, shurikens (ninja star), barrels, foxes and birds. While jumping to the other wall, your character will spin and unleashed its blade that will deflect anything that is thrown to you and you will gain a count of each type of obstacles. When you get three counts of one type of obstacles, you will gain a boost that let you go up faster without using the walls for a period of time. There is also a force-field type of shield that lies around that you can use to keep your character safe for one hit. Ninjump is a very easy and challenging game at the same time. With only one hand needed, you can play this game almost anywhere. Highly recommended.

Tomato Smash

Tomato Smash (Tomato Splash) is an action game that will hurt your fingers. It is a simple casual game that would require players to smash the fruits and vegetables inside the game. There are strawberries, tomatoes, apple, and nuts needed to be smashed to gain extra marks and go up a level. Each fruit / vegetable has a different times it needed to be hit before it smashes. The higher the level, the faster the things going to appear on the screen and you will be overwhelmed. Tomato Smash is practically free, however it does have a big advertisement under the screen that you might push accidentally. Sometimes the fruits appear just above the ads (refer picture above) which makes it quite difficult to avoid. When you hit the ads, it will open a website and really a kill-joy. What ever it is, Tomato Smash is still an addictive and well polished game to play. It is also suitable for children, and I believe it can train the motor cortex (eye-hand coordination).

Angry Birds: Seasons

Angry Birds: Seasons is the second game from the Rovio's Angry Birds franchise. Instead of just a standard background, the birds now embraces the festivities and seasons around the year. The objective is still the same, use the least bird and create the most destruction towards the pigs and their structures made of wood, glass, and bricks. There are several seasons inside this game, such as the Halloween (pic above), Easter (pic above), Chinese new year, and several more. The gameplay is still the same, but Angry Birds: Seasons is still as addictive as its original version. It is free on Android Marketplace, but it is a paid apps in Apps Store. There are also a HD version suitable for bigger screen devices and it costs more than the normal version.

Pigs In Trees

Pigs In Trees took the idea of the Angry Birds and turn it around. This time, the birds are the baddies, and the hero is a pig. Players will need to control a pig on an aeroplane to protect their trees being pecked by the birds. There are several types of birds you need to shoot down. They are, normal birds, front sound wave birds, sideways sound wave birds, mine birds and even gas birds with riding a gigantic plane... even though birds don't really need a plane to fly. To help you fight hoards of birds, you will have dynamites, repairs, multi-gun add-ons that has been thrown out of the tree from your other pig-friend. Collect it and use it when it matters most. Pigs In Trees is a very good and well polished tower defence game on iOS. It is free-of-charge, so don't waste your time and get it now.

Triple Town

Triple Town is a puzzle and tactics game that will consume several hours (or days) of your life. The challenge in this game is to arrange patches of grass, bush, trees, houses, and a lot more things in a group of 3s. 3 patches of grass makes a bush, three patches of bush makes a tree, and the list goes on. The more bigger things you make, the more money you can get. There are also some angry panda walking around the town that will disturb your patch laying activities. However, you can kill the pandas (sorry NSPCA) buy cornering them and leave no free patch for them to walk. This cornering will then create tombstones, and as you might have guessed, three tombstones makes a church. Triple Town is free to download, and I think NSPCA might ask the developer to change the villain from pandas to zombies or some sort soon.

Falling Fred

Falling Fred is a hit game on iOS platform. It is quite hard to classify this game because the character, Fred is not actually running, but he is falling. The challenge is to avoid any obstacles that he might hit. Players will need to steer Fred from these obstacles by using moving their devices up, down, left and right using the gyroscope controls. Fred can accept certain amount of hits before falling onto the ground inevitably. This game has a nice 3D graphics and quite challenging. However I don't think this game is suitable for the young ones as it has suicidal element and it is also quite graphic (blood & injuries). Falling Fred is free of charge on Apps store.

HypnoBlocks

HypnoBlocks is a puzzle game that will require precision and focus. The game is about selecting all the round-edged cubes that has the same colour in order to make them disappear. Each cube is covered with three black walls around them to make it difficult to select them from far. Players need to pan, zoom, and change the camera angle in order to see the colours of the cubes and select them. There is a time limit on each stage and the higher level players go to, the challenge get more harder as it adds more colour in the cube, and more cubes in a stage. There are also mine-like cube that if players accidentally clicked on it will unselect all the cubes that previously been selected. HypnoBlocks is a well polished game with an ever increasing challenge. It is free of charge on Apps Store.

Forever Drive

Forever Drive is the first addictive game that I played on my iPhone. I was pretty amazed with the game of having a 3D race track instead of a normal 2D race track like any other racer games I played on a mobile device. Players will take control of a car and race all the way across multiple tracks built by other players around the world. The only thing that needed to be done is to overtake all the cars, and make sure to arrive at checkpoints before the time is finish. The more car you overtake, the faster it gets and the bigger the combo is going to be. There are also some power ups like time-addition, and boost to help you out in the race track. There are several ways of controlling the car, but I personally like to use the virtual buttons on the left and right of the screen. Players can also make their own track and share it with the world. In a later version of the game, players can now compete with other players via online. Forever drive is slick, and satisfying. It will consume a lot of your time, and yes, it is free.

Spice Bandits

Spice Bandits (a.k.a Spice Invaders) is a tower defence game. A little bit different from a normal tower defence game, Spice Bandits has a hexagonal spaces compared to normal square spaces to fill with towers of guns, missiles, zappers and many more. Players can advanced their levels and gain some points to upgrade their towers, and some attributes (towers cost less when advancing the game etc). Players will also have some powers like the lightning, dizzy, etc to be used against the enemy. The main attraction of this game is that it has a PvP mode, enabling you to fight others via online. No more fighting brainless robots anymore. Spice Bandits is a very good free game to have, you won't realise how many hours you've spent on it.

Angry Birds

Mobile games is never complete without, yes you guessed it right, Angry Birds. Angry Birds is the most famous mobile game ever. The game is about some green pigs stealing eggs from the birds, and the birds are out for revenge. The pigs build structures to protect themselves using woods, rocks, glass, and sometimes weirdly TNTs. The challenge is to use the available birds to destroy the structures and the pigs. The more efficient and the more destruction made with the birds will turn to be getting the highest score. Players will play the Angry Birds again and again in order to get the high score which in turn will be getting 3 stars! Angry Birds is free on Android Marketplace, however you need to pay for it on iOS Apps Store. There are also a HD version of this game for bigger screen devices, and it will cost you more than the normal ones.

Jetpack Joyride

Another running game, and this time it is a 2D runner game. In Jetpack Joyride, you control a character running his way out of the gigantic laboratory facility. You are armed with a jetpack (filled with bullets instead of normal flammable liquid). Just like any other runner game, you must bring your character as far as you can while evading loads of lasers, zappers, and missiles. There are also some boost up such as the dragon, two-legged walker, motorcycle, gravity suits that can make it a little bit easier to get away from the facility. Jetpack Joyride is very addictive game, and it is just £0.69. (I got it for free during holiday seasons 2011).

Front Line Commando

Front Line Commando is a hide-and-shoot game. This games relies on you to control the character behind some waist high wall and shoot the enemies. Like many other 3D shooter game on iOS, you will find it quite difficult to target where to shoot. The main attraction of this game is that it has a very nice graphics and its quite challenging. You will never forget the first time you are fighting with a helicopter. Even though Front Line Commando is free of charge, you will need to buy in-game equipments in order to go further.

Temple Run

Temple run is one of the first addictive mobile game that I played. Basically it is a running game, and you need to control your runner after stealing a relic. Your character is being chased out of the temple by a group of weird monkeys that will eat you if you tremble or hit something. However, different to any other traditional running game, this game is in 3D, and you have a choice of going to the left or right. The controls in Temple Run is quite easy. You swipe right to go right, and swipe left to go left, swipe up to jump and swipe down to slide. You can also lean your device left or right to collect all the coins levitating around your escape route. This game is free-of-charge, another reason to try it.
